WWII veterans speak about services they’ve received in South Mississippi at Veterans’ Resource Fair
Two WWII and Korean War veterans speak about the services they've received in South Mississippi at a veterans resource fair.
“I think there is a tremendous presence, which I am aware of since I got here. The number of bases that they have along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and of course the new VA is a fantastic place. As well as our armed forces retirement home, which is a fantastic facility. We as veterans appreciate it very much.”
“We get the best medical attention that we could possibly have.”
The fair took place at the Ocean Springs Civic Center and was held to offer veterans, active-duty personnel, and their families the opportunity to connect with veteran vendors while enjoying live music and food.
“Today we’re hosting the first ever veterans resource fair. The intention of today’s event is to bring veterans in and connect them with veteran resources in the area. Something I’ve learned connecting with veterans in the community is they often don’t know where to turn when they need assistance with programs. So, they can come here and it’s a one stop shop and find out what’s available for them.”
The fair also featured special guest presentations from a WW2 veteran and a local VA representative.
“There are a variety of services. We offer a variety of in-home services and community services. One of the services we offer is the foster home program. It’s a program where you can foster a veteran. The veteran can live with the family. Just like you foster a child, you can foster a veteran in your home.”
