World War II airman returns home to Mississippi
The remains of an airman killed during World War II will be buried April 22 in Forrest County.
Second Lieutenant Theodore Scarborough was a native of Brooklyn, Mississippi.
He served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
Scarborough was serving as the bombardier aboard a bomber when it was shot down in 1943.
He died in the crash and his remains could not be identified, being buried in a military cemetery in Romania.
A group began exhuming unknown soldiers thought to be unaccounted-for airmen, identifying Scarborough on September 7, 2022.
He was identified by dental as well as by DNA analysis.
