Workshop Held about Water and Sewer Rates in Biloxi
The city of Biloxi discussed water and sewer rates during this morning’s meeting.
Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich and city attorney Gerald Blessey laid out plans that would raise utility rates for Biloxi residents. Currently, the city pays more money to the Harrison County Utility Authority than it charges each city household. The tiered rate increase would be for everyone over the minimum of 3,000 gallons a month. Anyone using at or below 3,000 gallons would have a constant rate.
“The rates haven’t been raised in four or five years. So, it’s an adjustment really to reflect increased costs in that time period and projecting forward. It brings us in line. The good thing is Biloxi’s water and sewer rates are the lowest on the Coast right now and with the rate increases, which are slight, they’ll still be the lowest on the Coast, even after the rate increase for every range, the small user and the high-end user,” said Blessey.
If the rate increases are passed, the increase would go into effect in April.
