Work for Warriors Symposium helps veterans find jobs
A symposium took place in Gulfport in hopes of helping military veterans get back into the work force.
The Work for Warriors Symposium brought out business leaders, local employers, Navy reserve employment directors, and HR directors to learn more about what the ‘Work for Warriors Project’ is all about.
It’s a program that provides employment for currently serving national guardsmen and women, military veterans, along with their spouses and dependents.
Right now, Mississippi ranks in the top 15 for unemployment and 7.9 percent of those unemployed are veterans.
Program Director Daniel Haggerty’s goal is to have all service members employed. “I have an opportunity and our team has the opportunity, statewide, to make sure that families service, currently serving or former veterans have food on their table and an opportunity, a career opportunity every day.”
The program asks employers who are looking to fill a position to reach out to your nearby ‘Work for Warriors’ employment coordinator for assistance.
