Woolmarket Elementary hosts a Veterans Day Ceremony

Woolmarket Elementary hosted a Veterans Day ceremony to honor the men and women in our community who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The ceremony included a performance of patriotic songs sung by each grade that was very emotional for some veterans and guests.

During a patriotic slide show, the school took the time to recognize those who served in the past and those who are currently serving by having them stand up whenever their service branch was showcased on the screen.

Children handed out thank you cards to show extra appreciation as the song ‘Letters from Home’ played.

A table for one was placed in the center to honor those who have died serving our country. Woolmarket Elementary Principal Kevin Roberts said, “You know a lot of times today, everybody thinks about themselves. It’s a me, me, generation and I totally get that, but veterans are all about service and sacrifice and I think we have a little too less of that in society today. I think that’s a good value that kids can pick up. A ceremony like this allows you to really highlight that in a positive way.”

Roberts says they can’t wait to do it again next year and they plan to do it bigger and better.
