Woods still smoldering from Saturday fire in Ocean Springs

Smoke can still be seen in Jackson County due to the fire on Saturday in Gulf Park Estates.

According to Mississippi Forestry Commission Outreach Officer Kevin Craft, the fire spread 240 acres.

While it has been contained and is currently out, Craft says there is still some continuous smoldering caused by fallen trees and stumps still burning.

This smoldering could potentially last several days before completely going out.

There has been no reported damage to buildings and no injuries or deaths.

Rumors have spread about the fire potentially being caused by children playing with matches, however, nothing has been confirmed yet by authorities and the fire is still under investigation.
