Women’s March on Washington
Today people stood and cheered for President Donald Trump, tomorrow people will march in solidarity to defend their rights. The Women’s March on Washington brings together all races, religions, sexual orientation, ages, and abilities.
While the main march will be in Washington, there are over 600 marches scheduled across the nation, including one march right here on the Coast. The Steps Coalition is heading the march here, but a local immigration group will also join in to march for their rights. Melinda Medina with the Mississippi Immigrant’s Rights Alliance said, “I’m not sure if you’re aware, but six anti-immigrant bills have already been introduced into this legislative session. So basically, a lot of our families are being targeted. It’s important that we stand in solidarity with the immigrant community, especially women who need to work to support their family and if you start putting out roadblocks to where they can’t support their families, what are you doing to their U.S. citizen children?”
There will be a rally at 1 at Café Climb and the march will follow. Marches will also be held in Hattiesburg, Jackson, and Oxford.
