Women’s football team holds tryouts
A new women’s football team on the Gulf Coast held its first round of tryouts in Biloxi on Saturday and is looking for more players to join the team.
The Gulf Coast Monarchy is slated to play teams across the country in the Women’s Football Alliance starting with a preseason in March.
Around a dozen women tested their physical skills at the first tryout at Biloxi’s Kroc Center, which included running, agility, and tackling drills.
Head Coach Robert Williams says the tryout process tests skill and football knowledge. “It’s pretty much a combine setup tryout. The women come in, we do 40-yard dashes, and then we do push-ups, get them to see what type of understanding they have for the game of football. It’s pretty simple.
The Monarchy’s next tryout will be held at the Kroc Center on November 2nd. All women from the ages of 18 to 72 are invited to attend.
