Women Worried About Their Safety on Biloxi Bay Bridge

Police are still searching for the man who sexually assaulted a woman on the Biloxi Bay Bridge last week. Ocean Springs Police say they are still following a variety of leads and are asking anyone with information or tips to please call in.

While police are following potential leads, female runners who frequent the Biloxi Bay Bridge are speaking out. An organization called Gulf Coast W.A.V.E. has formed to bring awareness to violence against women, and the Gulf Coast Running Club is preparing to organize a safety seminar for female runners.

Nancy Phillips of the Gulf Coast Running Club says, “This is something that happens every year, non-stop. I get constant notifications. One of the things I try to promote among the ladies in our club is communication. When something happens, let everyone else know. Even if it’s just something that makes you feel a little uncomfortable.”

The Gulf Coast Running Club is still organizing final details on their safety seminar, which will take place sometime in December. The seminar will include information about safety apparel, self-defense, and tips to stay safe.
