Woman wanted for questioning in Jackson County for suspicious death arrested

The 39-year old woman wanted for questioning in the suspicious death of a man whose body was found in a St. Martin hotel room Monday, January 9, is in custody.

Sheriff John Ledbetter says Mary Ann Slaughter, aka Mary Saldana, was arrested around 3 Wednesday afternoon.

She’s being held at the Forrest County jail after the Hattiesburg based 12th Circuit Court Metro Narcotics Task Force took her into custody.

Sheriff’s investigators want to question Slaughter about the death of 32-year old Cody O’Neal of Vancleave.  He was found deceased Monday at the Red Roof Inn on Cook Road in St. Martin.

Slaughter is charged with motor vehicle theft, after allegedly taking O’Neal’s truck from the hotel. The truck was recovered during Slaughter’s arrest.

Slaughter is awaiting transport to Jackson County for a court hearing.

Sheriff Ledbetter says more arrests are possible in this case.
