Woman struck by vehicle identified

The 90-year-old woman that was struck by a vehicle in Gulfport Saturday night has been identified.

Harrison County Deputy Coroner Brian Switzer has identified the victim as Ava Baswell of Gulfport.  Switzer says Baswell was walking on Robinson Road when she was struck by a Toyota Corolla traveling westbound in the area of Robinson and Salisbury Road. The driver of the Corolla had immediately stopped and cooperated with police.

Baswell was transported to Garden Park Medical Center where she later died of blunt force trauma. Switzer says Baswell has a history of dementia and Alzheimer’s.

No charges have been filed. The investigation is still ongoing.
