Woman charged with fleeing Gulfport Police, dragging officer in process
A woman who was wanted on outstanding misdemeanor warrants in Gulfport fled from officers and allegedly dragged one officer with her vehicle.
Gulfport Police on Thursday charged 39-year-old Daronda Jackson with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. She was taken to the Harrison County jail.
Bond on that charge was set at $250,000.
Police say Jackson arrived at the police station early Thursday to discuss a hit-and-run incident. While at the station, she was informed she had multiple misdemeanor warrants for shoplifting and trespassing and that she was under arrest. Jackson allegedly informed an officer she had a minor in the vehicle and needed to let them know what was happening.
Police said the officer offered to relay the information to the child, and noticed Jackson leaving the station and getting into the vehicle. The officer ordered Jackson out while standing in the doorway of the driver’s side door.
Jackson originally claimed she would not start the vehicle but did so, putting the car in reverse and subsequently dragging the officer and striking a sign, according to police, who said the officer then escaped and Jackson fled.
Jackson was later arrested after a brief pursuit involving Biloxi Police, who charged her with felony eluding. The bond on that charge was $50,000.
