Woman accused of trying to hurt deputy who stopped to help with a disabled vehicle

A Jackson County woman is behind bars, accused of trying to injure a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy when he stopped to help her with a disabled vehicle.

21-year-old Lanay Williams was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Bonds on the misdemeanors are $1,000 each, but she was denied bond on the aggravated assault charge. She was taken to the Jackson County jail.

Jackson County officials said a deputy stopped to help Williams when they saw her vehicle was disabled. When the deputy approached the vehicle, Williams charged the deputy, brandishing a box blade.

The deputy was not injured.
