Winter Guard teams compete for spot at World Championships
In Gulfport, Winter Guard teams battled it out for a chance to advance to the World Championships.
The WGI Regional Qualifier was held at Gulfport High, the third time the school has hosted the event. The competition featured 44 of the best Color Guard programs from Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.
Teams were able to bring music to life through choreographed routines and the art of storytelling. Director of Bands for Gulfport School District Wes Morehead said, “The level of competition for this specific event is so high. We have some of the top teams in the country here today. There is a lot of support. You can hear the people cheering for each other even if they’re on a different team. They just celebrate all the success of the individual student.”
Now the WGI World Color Guard Championships will be held in Dayton, Ohio April 13th through the 15th.
