Winter Classics off to a Good Start in Harrison County
The Gulf Coast Winter Classics are off to a good start this year with about a thousand horses registered and plenty of events on tap for the next few weeks.
The six-week U.S. Equestrian Foundation AA Rated hunter-jumper event highlights some of the sport’s finest equine athletes from across the nation. The 2017 event offers more than one million dollars in prize money and awards classes for all skill levels and more.
The event gets bigger and bigger each week. Sundays are a great day to come out and watch the grand prix at no admission cost. Gulf Coast Winter Classics Manager Bob Bell said, “Sundays are a great day to come out here and watch the grand prix. Every week the money begins to increase. After we finished this week, we were 25,000 this week. The next weeks will get bigger and bigger and bigger and more and more riders will come to compete for that money. There’s no admission. Come out and watch, bring your lawn chair. Tailgate if you want off the back of your car, it’s a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.”
