Winn-Dixie along HWY 49 in Gulfport closing its doors to become an ALDI

The Winn-Dixie in Gulfport along Highway 49 is heading into its final days, as on November 10 it will shut its doors to transition into the newest ALDI location.

Signs covered the outside of the store announcing the closure, with one final liquidation sale to clear out merchandise. For some local shoppers the transition to an ALDI is a welcome one while others will miss the familiar grocery store.

“I’m very sad because I’ve been shopping here forever and now I got to find another grocery store. We’re going to have to wait and see what the ALDI is going to be like but I’m going to miss Winn-Dixie,” said Cathy Love, a local Gulfport shopper.

Other shoppers, such as Florence Keppner, were excited to welcome the new shopping addition to Highway 49.

“I’ve been wanting to shop at ALDI’s. They have good products and they are reasonable and its fresh, so I’m looking forward to this opening.”

The transition over to an ALDI is expected to take multiple months, meaning shoppers north of I-10 along Highway 49 will be will have one less major retailer to do their grocery shopping at, leaving many to find alternatives for their groceries while others consider going to the closest location in Long Beach to get their Winn-Dixie fix.

“It’ll probably be the Neighborhood Market at Walmart or Froogel’s down the road,” said Jaxson, a local shopper, when asked where his next pick for grocery shopping will be once the Winn-Dixie closes.

Its uncertain how long it will take to transition the Winn-Dixie Gulfport location into an ALDI, but we will keep you updated when an opening date has been set.
