Windy Swetman Kettlethon raises money for Salvation Army
One South Mississippi family’s tradition of giving back for the holidays returns for another year.
The 11th annual Windy Swetman Kettlethon began this morning at sun-up and ran until sunset outside the Biloxi Visitors Center on Highway 90.
Windy and his family were ringing the bell and raising money for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Holiday Campaign. The Swetman’s have a goal of raising $25,000.
Swetman says he appreciates all the great work the Salvation Army does and everyone who has supported his Kettlethon over the years. “We’ve always led from the front, lead by example. So, we came up with this idea to have a Kettlethon where we would ring the bell from sunup to sundown. The people of South Mississippi have always been generous and supportive of the business community, our friends, our family. So, we’re here on the 11th year, ringing the bell and spreading Christmas cheer and promoting all the great work that the Salvation Army does here in South Mississippi.”
The Swetman’s efforts all go into the Salvation Army’s goal of reaching $300,000 from its Red Kettle drive. Area Commander Major Jerry Friday says he appreciates the efforts of the Swetman’s and wishes more families around the Coast could organize their own personal Kettlethon in the near future.
