William Carey hosts retirement party for President Dr. Tommy King
William Carey University Tradition Campus hosted a retirement reception today for the school’s president of 15 years.
Friends, faculty, and former students gathered at the school to say goodbye to President Dr. Tommy King.
King became the school’s ninth president in 2007 and is the first graduate of William Carey to hold that title.
In addition to a Bachelor of Arts degree from William Carey, King holds four graduate degrees, including a doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi.
During his tenure at the school, King played a part in major expansions of the college such as the building of the tradition campus itself.
King says one of his proudest accomplishments was opening up the School of Pharmacy at the Biloxi campus. “The average tenure for college presidents in the United States is a little less than seven years, so to know that you have been on board for fifteen and a half is pretty satisfying.”
His last day as president is August 15th with Executive Vice President Ben Burnett taking the role the next day.
