Wilkes Drawbridge closing rescheduled for next week
A reminder for drivers in Gulfport who use Cowan Lorraine Road, the Wilkes Drawbridge will be closed overnight from Sunday through Wednesday to prepare for the reopening of all four lanes.
The bridge will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each of those nights to work on the four-lane configuration and to work on the median.
The crews are putting the final touches on a $22 million bridge rehabilitation project. Traffic on the heavily traveled bridge has been reduced to two lanes since January, when the work started.
After seven months of traffic delays and bottlenecking north and southbound on Lorraine Road, the bridge will be reopening once this work is complete. The target date is Thursday, July 14.
