Wildfire Safety and Prevention Tips

More than 400 wildfires have broken out in Mississippi since November. News 25 wants to help keep the Coast safe by teaching you some wildfire safety tips.

Prevention and Protection is the key during a drought.

The Mississippi Forestry Commission says that keeping your yard clean, lean, and green will help prevent wildfires.

This means watering your yard, trimming your trees, and cleaning any dead vegetation from your yard, gutters, or under your porch.

Next, locate the parts of your home that are most vulnerable to a fire. Ask yourself, are they fire resistant and fully sealed?

Local wildfires can give off embers that could slip through any loose cracks. In the event that you need to evacuate your home for any reason, have an emergency action plan and know two ways out of the neighborhood.
