Wildfire Prevention Month with Pass Christian fire Department

PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (WXXV) – May is Wildfire Prevention Month. The Mississippi Forestry Commission responded to 2,502 wildfires in fiscal year 2024, destroying 24 homes, two commercial buildings. Local firefighters saved 3,886 homes and commercial buildings.

The Pass Christian Fire Department uses a variety of tactics to respond to wildfires, depending on the specific situation and needs. Preventing wildfires begins with sharing and listening to accurate and reliable information.

Although Mississippi’s humid climate and frequent rainfall generally make its wildfires less severe and long-lasting than those in the Western U.S., wildfires remain a common occurrence during the months of February, March, and April.
