Wildcats Make History: Pearl River Clinches First NJCAA World Series Berth in Dominant Fashion

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — It was another electric day in “Pop-Vegas” as Pearl River Community College delivered a statement performance, overpowering Northeast Mississippi Community College 12-4 in the Poplarville Regional Championship to secure the program’s first-ever trip to the NJCAA Softball World Series.

From the very first inning, the Wildcats made their intentions clear: score early, score often, and never let up.

Pearl River wasted no time jumping on the board in the bottom of the first. Shania Fondren sparked the offense with a shot into short left field that rolled all the way to the fence, allowing Kai Goodman and Natalee Eaves to race home. Though Fondren was caught in a rundown between third and home, the damage was done — the Wildcats had a quick 2-0 lead.

The second inning followed a similar script. Taylor Foster ignited the rally with a scorching hit past the left fielder for a stand-up double, pushing Anna Acree into scoring position. Addy Grace Alexander then showcased her speed, beating out a hopper to second and bringing Acree home. Moments later, Eaves reached base and came around to score, extending the lead to 4-0 after two innings.

Northeast Mississippi attempted to claw back with a pair of runs, but Pearl River answered immediately — and emphatically. Foster stepped up again and delivered the biggest swing of the day to that point, launching a towering two-run home run that sailed out of the park and restored control at 6-2.

The Wildcats’ offensive rhythm never faltered. Eaves added another RBI with a sharp hit to the right side, continuing the team’s trend of scoring in nearly every inning.

Then came the fifth inning — a decisive, high-energy stretch that sealed the championship.

Teegan DeWitt opened the floodgates with a line drive up the middle, scoring Acree. Alexander followed with a clutch slap hit in the same direction, driving in both Emily Theriot and Foster. Taking advantage of an overthrow, Alexander hustled all the way to third, capping off a heads-up, two-RBI play.

With momentum fully on their side, freshman infielder Jaycee Holifield delivered the final blow, ripping a shot down the left field line to bring Eaves home and end the game via mercy rule.

The 12-4 victory not only secured the regional title but also etched this Wildcats squad into the history books. For the first time ever, Pearl River softball is headed to the NJCAA Softball World Series.

Alexander led the charge with a flawless 4-for-4 performance and three RBIs, embodying the relentless energy that defined the Wildcats all afternoon.

Following the game, Head Coach Christie Meeks and standout performer Alexander reflected on the milestone victory — one that marks a new era for Pearl River softball and sets the stage for a historic postseason run.
