Wiggins firefighters honored for action taken during a medical emergency
Four firefighters with the Wiggins Fire Department were honored Wednesday night for actions taken during a cardiac arrest earlier this year.
Assistant Chief Allen Hatten, Captain Kevin Sharpe, Captain Clayton Sharp, and Firefighter John Ray Walker were honored during the department’s Christmas dinner and awards banquet.
Chief Steven Purvis said this work highlights what it means to jump into action, work as a team and witness a life saved with a full recovery.
He says the gratitude of the patient and their family reminds the department why they do what they do.
The Wiggins Fire Department also highlighted their Firefighter of the Year. That honor goes to Captain Kevin Sharpe.
Fire officials say Captain Share is a great example of leading from the front with heart, dedication, and motivation.
They say his commitment boosts the department’s morale every day and he never hesitates to step up and contribute whenever needed.
