Widows Walk group meets monthly at local restaurant in Hurley

Following up this evening on a story we first brought you a few weeks ago, a support group for widows in South Mississippi met this afternoon for this month’s Widows Walk event.

All Widows Walk events are held at Sassy’s Restaurant in Hurley. The theme of this lunch was ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s.’

Widows Walk started meeting just about a year ago in June 2023 and has met once every month since then.

The event, which has grown in size each month, started with about 50 members attending and has now grown to around 170 ladies.

One of the organizers of Widows Walk spoke to WXXV about today’s event and how the event has grown so much over the past year.  Widows Walk Organizer Teresa Emswiler said, “Today, we were having Widows Walk. It is a monthly luncheon for ladies who are widows. We send out invitations every month. We have lunch and a fun time with the speaker. We did a makeover reveal for the owner of Sassy’s. It’s her birthday this month, so we did something special for her. And gave away lots of door prizes.”

The next Widows Walk will be on July 9th at Sassy’s Restaurant at 11 a.m. The theme for the next meeting is ‘Freedom’ in honor of the 4th of July.  So be sure to bring out the red, white, and blue if you plan on attending.
