Where is it Safe & Legal to Light Fireworks on the Coast?
Many locals already have their fireworks ready to fire away at midnight. The tradition of lighting up the sky to welcome in the New Year brings family and friends together in celebration, but where is a safe and legal place to light them? While the City of Gulfport has an ordinance in place that prohibits the use of fireworks within city limits, the beach is fair game.
Sgt. Damon McDaniel, Public Relations Officer for the Gulfport Police Department, says, "What we recommend to people if you do want to use fireworks for the 4th of July or for New Year’s, that’s coming up, we recommend that anyone would be able to go to the beach area where they will be close to the water and they will be able to use the fireworks there.”
The Gulfport Police Department encourages everyone to stay safe this New Year and recommends not mixing alcoholic beverages with the use of fireworks.
