What’s Coming to Former Harrison County Skate Park Site?

Today, members of the Harrison County Board of Supervisors overheard the proposals of several businesses all hoping to set up shop in the old skate park on Debuys Road.
The process is still up in the air because whatever business gets the green light will enter into a partnership with the county and the school board.
Today the Harrison County Board of Supervisors schedule was packed. Board members listened to pitches from multiple companies who hope their business is selected to set up shop on Debuys Road. The proposals include an indoor and inflatable soccer complex, an ice skating rink, restoration back to its original purpose as a skate park and to become a film education and production facility each vying for the spot.
Bo Lindsay with Planet Ice said, “It’s housed for many years the roller rink and inline hockey rink and was used for that, all we’re going to do is put in a refrigeration system so that we have ice. It’s a simple process.”
Shaheed Ali with AA Entertainment said, “We’re from the community, we know the community. I just feel that if we can get the lease, we can provide this opportunity for the youth to have positive activities to do.”
Kevin Mattina with Soccer Life said, “It is family oriented and there’s a need for more soccer fields and there’s a lot of neighborhoods around here. We also are going to be implementing working with the Kroc Center to do some after school projects.”
This is only step one for the board in what is sure to be a very careful selection process. The former skating park has spent time as a film studio. Now it looks like Harrison County has their work cut out for them on deciding which business is going to be right for the community. Harrison County Supervisor Beverly Martin said, “The first step of course, was to go out for a request for proposals which we’ve done. This is a work session. We’ll work through, we’ll discuss it afterwards and if we all agree there’s one that stands out from the others I’m thinking we might try to award it, but it still has to go through the process of the school board. They’re a partner in this.”
For now, the skate park will remain empty, but no matter which plan is accepted, you can expect big things in the near future.
