Whataburger on HWY 49 temporarily closed

People looking for lunch were interrupted at the Whataburger on Highway 49 in Gulfport earlier today.

The fast-food restaurant temporarily closed due to smoke inside the structure. Gulfport fire responded to the scene.

According to Gulfport Fire Chief Billy Kelley, a piece in the air conditioner was found smoldering. It was put out without any incident.

News 25 reached out to the Whataburger in Gulfport for comment, but they were unable to give an update.
