West Wortham Elementary student wins national writing contest
A not so long time ago in a school not so far, far away, a local seventh grader won a prize that’s out of this world.
West Wortham Elementary School student Molly Larose is one of ten students across the nation to win a huge “Star Wars” prize pack from Scholastic. Back in September, Molly’s advanced English language arts class had an assignment to write original “Star Wars” narratives that begin with the line “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.” Her teacher, Kaitlyn Parkinson, entered the stories in the Scholastic “Star Wars” story starter competition.
Molly, who says she’s a huge “Star Wars” fan, says she was speechless when she found out she was one of the winners. “I was kind of freaking out. I was sweating a lot. It was getting really hot and I was like ‘oh my gosh, I won.’ It was great. I feel like honored, I guess, that they thought my writing was good. It encouraged me to know that people think it’s good so I can write more.”
