West Harrison Track and Field’s Evan Turan signs with Belhaven University

West Harrison track and field standout Evan Turan is taking his talents to the next level after signing with Belhaven University this afternoon.

Turan says he’s taken his game to new heights or distances this season, adding about 20 feet on his discus throw and about 10 on shot put.

As it stands now, his personal records in a meet are 136 feet on discus and 46’4” on shot.

A three-sport athlete, also starring in football and powerlifting, Turan says he started to believe he had the potential to land a four-year scholarship earlier this year.

Little did he know, he’s been sitting on the offer of his dreams this whole time. “It was actually a bit of a funny story. They had offered me in February, but I didn’t know about it, so this whole time I’ve been improving and just sending out my film to them and just being like, is this the mark that’s going to get me the offer? When I’ve been having it for so long. Apparently it was lost in translation. Apparently, they had offered me over the phone, and I just didn’t catch onto it. I went up for a visit on one of their discovery days, and I was talking with their recruiter and he was like, yeah, we’ve offered you and we’re just waiting to hear what you’re going to say and we’re hoping this visit will help. And I was like, if I knew y’all would have offered me, I would have committed a while ago. Today is a huge day. it kind of shows that I’ll be able to go onto the next level, and be able to continue the sport that I love.”

Turan says he plans to major in math and business or mechanical engineering.
