West Harrison High Students Create Relief Video

A group of students at West Harrison High School have put their skills and what they’ve learned to a good cause.
The broadcast journalism students have collaborated with the yearbook students to collect donations for Hattiesburg and Petal tornado victims. They even created a video to promote the effort. Their hope is to fill an entire school bus with donations to deliver to the hardest hit areas on Friday.
Students News 25 spoke with say the idea for the drive came easy, remembering a time when the people of South Mississippi were the ones in need after a disaster. Yearbook student Tabitha Bridges said, “We’re all citizens of the Coast. A lot of us have grown up here around the time of Hurricane Katrina. We felt destruction. We know what it feels like to have everything ripped away and we didn’t think we could sit idly by while our neighbors are in crisis.”
Broadcast journalism student Deniyah Downs said, “We wanted to be a saving grace for Hattiesburg as well and not just to put our school on the map, but we also are good people and we just want to be there for them.”
