West Harrison High choir to sing with Foreigner

High school choir students here on the Coast are gearing up for a once in a lifetime opportunity.

They’re known for such hits as ‘Cold as Ice’ and ‘I Want to Know What Love is.’ Now, local students are taking the stage to join the legends that made those hits so popular. Choir Member Bianca Johnson said, “Getting to showcase what we’ve done, what we’ve come to accomplish, what we’ve become, that’s what I’m really excited about.”

Foreigner is headed to Biloxi for two concerts Friday and Saturday at the IP Casino Resort and Spa.

As part of our 25 Voices Choir Contest, the West Harrison High School choir submitted a video rendition of a Foreigner song and was selected as one of the winning choirs to perform with the band, marking the second time since 2017 they’ll share the stage with the group. West Harrison High Choral Director Curtis Staples said, “I know all the Foreigner songs, ‘I Want to Know What Love Is,’ and ‘Cold as Ice,’ and ‘Jukebox Hero,’ so this is like a dream come true for me. It’s a great experience for the choir.”

The impact of this honor goes way beyond the performance on Friday night. Foreigner is donating $500 to the band, allowing the group to purchase new performance attire and a much needed tuning for their piano. “It will go to make the choir even better for future performances.”

As they work hard to prepare for their rendition of ‘I Want to know What Love Is,’ choir members are reflecting on what the opportunity means to them. Choir Member Megan Hentges said, “We feel like a family. We feel like a unity and having everybody to come together and sing, it sounds really nice.”

“There’s a lot of nerves, but with my choir family it makes it easy.”
