West Harrison Cheer heading to national championships in 2024
Over the past few years, West Harrison Cheer has become a dominant program in the state of Mississippi – racking up numerous accolades with a most-recent state championship.
West Harrison Cheer won its fourth state title in the last five years last week at the State Cheer Competitions.
The Hurricane Cheer Squad is now back-to-back champions in the 6A game-day cheer category.
The program, in its sixth year under Head Coach Heather Serpas, has risen to a premiere program not only in the state but nationally placing 2nd place in the National Competitions last year and winning back-to-back in the years prior.
Serpas and Assistant Head Coach Hannah Jones say they are thankful for the hard work their team has put in over the last few months, but also have their eyes on winning nationals yet again.
“That experience of getting to be back to back state champions is unreal,” said Jones. “We work six months and we have one shot to get that title and just for their work and to be fulfilled and to come to fruition. It’s just amazing as coaches and it’s amazing to bring the team together.”
“Nationals we are pretty much going to be practicing every day. Three hours a day. Our practices are pretty hardcore,” said Daisy Parker, the senior cheer captain. “So that energy has to stay out for straight three hours. It takes a lot to just have like good practices and good practices or what it’s going to take for us to win nationals.”
The West Harrison Cheer Squad placed in the regional competition to send them to national championships at Disney World beginning in February 2024.
