West Harrison alum Ameshya Williams-Holiday drafted by Indiana Fever
Each year, the Gillom Trophy goes to the top college women’s basketball player in the Magnolia State and now two of the three finalists up for this year’s award drafted into the WNBA.
Starting with West Harrison alum Ameshya Williams-Holliday going 25th overall to the Indiana Fever as the first pick of the third round.
That makes her the first HBCU player drafted in 19 years and what a ride it’s been for the former Lady Hurricane.
Williams went straight to Mississippi State in 2016, but was out of basketball for two years before finally arriving at stardom with Jackson State.
In her final season with the Lady Tigers, Williams led the SWAC in points, field goal percentage, blocks, and rebounds en route to the program’s second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
