Weather delays causing major schedule changes for C-USA Tournament
As it stands now, the Conference USA tournament has been delayed at least eight different times due to lightning strikes within ten miles of the stadium. The fans aren’t too happy about it.
Starting on Wednesday, only 15 of the 36 scheduled innings were played and tournament officials have been playing catch-up ever since. If the UTSA-Charlotte game is played tonight, the weekend slate will be back online.
For the fans that have traveled to watch their schools compete, there’s a growing frustration over the NCAA rule and how it’s being implemented this week. Southern Miss fan C.J. Eytel said, “The most important part was trying to watch them play as much baseball as possible, and through the lightning delays it’s been pretty difficult traveling back and forth from our Airbnb trying to figure out if we end up staying here at the ballpark for five hours and we might see three innings of baseball. So it’s been pretty tough.”
Southern Miss fan Ruby Meadows said, “With this going on like this with all these delays and everything, you can’t plan nothing else out of here because you never know. You might have to leave and have to come back and then there’s no thunder or lightning nowhere around, the sun is a shining and I just think it’s a bunch of bull.”
