WCU presents free concert series, “October Nights”

William Carey University will host a free concert series during October showcasing musicians and vocalists from the Winters School of Music.
The “October Nights” concerts will be at Thomas Fine Arts Center and Common Grounds, the campus coffee shop.
“This is a chance for our students to perform for the community and share all the wonderful things God is doing at William Carey University. We hope to see you at Thomas Fine Arts – or bring your favorite lawn chair to Common Grounds for one of the outdoor concerts,” said Dr. Wes Dykes, dean of the Winters School of Music.
Here’s a look at October Nights:
- Thursday, Oct. 5: Two bands perform at Common Grounds. Thomas Hall is a rock guitar group voted “Best Local Band” this year in Signature Magazine’s “Best of the Pine Belt” contest. Restoration Band is a vocal/instrumental Christian band.
- Thursday, Oct. 12: WCU’s premier instrumental groups present their fall concerts at Thomas Fine Arts Center – the WCU Orchestra and the Symphonic Winds. Both perform at university and local programs throughout the year.
- Tuesday, Oct. 17: Three vocal groups headline a concert at Thomas Fine Arts Center. The Carey Chorale is WCU’s premier vocal ensemble, presenting concerts on campus, and at schools and churches. The Women’s Choir performs at campus and community events. Carey On is a 12-member a cappella group made up of six women and six men.
- Thursday, Oct. 19: Come see WCU’s jazz combo, Knights of Jazz, and Carey Big Band under the stars at Common Grounds. Carey Big Band selections include songs by Count Basie, Stevie Wonder, and Duke Ellington.
All “October Nights” concerts start at 7 p.m. They are free to the public. Questions? Call the WCU Winters School of Music at (601) 318-6175.
