Ways to Help New Orleans Victims and Families
The country is still shocked in the wake of the New Years attack in New Orleans.
As authorities work to identify victims and notify their families, some local agencies and civilians are rallying to establish resources to help those impacted.
If you’re looking to donate, the city of New Orleans and the Greater New Orleans Foundation has set up a New Years Day Tragedy Fund.
Donations will help cover medical expenses, funeral costs, trauma counseling, and more with 100% of donations going directly to those impacted.
If you are able to donate you can do so here.
Another major resource needed right now is blood.
According to the Blood Center, donations are already low this time of year and due to recent events the regional inventory levels are falling below optimal levels.
There will are multiple locations in the New Orleans area but closer to home you can donate to the locations here.
The New Orleans Sheriff’s office is also pledging to help victims and their families.
Sheriff Susan Hudson said this in a statement, “Our Crime Victim Reparations Unit stands ready to support by ensuring assistance is made available to all victims and their families for funeral expenses and medical costs, and by providing access to counseling and support services as you navigate the aftermath of this gruesome act.”
People in need of assistance can contact the sheriff’s office victims services team at (504)827-6754 or (504)872-1059.
