Waveland Police investigating early-morning shooting

Waveland Police are investigating a shooting early Thursday morning that left one man dead and another injured.

Officers were sent to the 300 block of Hargett Street in reference to a shooting.

On scene, officers found two people had been shot. Both victims were taken to local hospitals and one of the victims died.

“We are still in the early stages of our investigation,” said Chief Mike Prendergast. “More information will be released as soon as it becomes available.”

While en route with a victim to Ochsner Medical Center – Hancock in Bay St. Louis, an ambulance collided with a Hancock County patrol car that was escorting the ambulance.

Sheriff Ricky Adam said his patrol car was hit broadside and the deputy was injured.

“He suffered a fractured rib or two,” Adam said. “They’re keeping him for observation.”

Adam said first responders in the ambulance also were injured in the accident.
