Waveland Police have arrested a Louisiana man after he choked his female companion.

Police Chief Michael Prendergast said 31-year-old Manch Cadwallader of Baton Rouge has been charged with shoplifting and domestic aggravated assault. He was taken to the Hancock County jail, awaiting an inital appearance.

Police were sent to the Clark’s Exxon about a shoplifting call. The suspect, Cadwallader, was sitting in a white Jeep attempting to flee.

Officers made contact with Cadwallader, who was sweating profusely and was unable to answer questions. A female also was in the vehicle. She was visibly upset and hesitant to talk to officers in front of Cadwallader.

Once the two were separated, the female said she and Cadwallader had gotten into a fight and Cadwallader choked her until she passed out. When she came to, he was in the store. When he returned to the vehicle, Cadwallader told her to drive, got angry and choked the woman a second time.

Officers saw marks on the woman consistent with choking, as well as a bleeding ear where an earring had been. The woman was taken to Ochsner Medical Center for treatment and Cadwallader was arrested.
