Waveland Mayor Mike Smith not seeking re-election

Waveland Mayor Mike Smith will not be seeking another term when his is up.

He has been a public servant for nearly 40 years, serving two terms as the mayor of Waveland.

Mayor Smith has been facing health issues since February, saying doctors recommend he not seek re-election.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Smith said the decision was not an easy one to make and he truly loves the city and all of the residents. He thanked the residents for showing support and kindness to him and his family as well as thanking the board of aldermen and employees of the city.

In closing, he said he wished nothing but the best for the residents of Waveland.
