Waveland hosting 40th annual Night Out event Saturday

Looking ahead to the weekend, Waveland police and community partners are preparing for the 40th annual Night Out.

National Night Out is an annual campaign to promote police-community and neighborhood unity.

The focus of this 40-year-old event is encourage public safety, community partnerships, and neighborhood involvement in an effort to make residents feel safer and create a more inviting place to live and or raise a family.

There will be tons of food, games, and fun for all ages to enjoy. Waveland Police Investigator Jamie Nelson said, “What we hope to get out of the event really is just a chance to come together with the community under less stressful circumstances than we’d generally meet them. It’s very important for us, especially at Waveland because we feel really close to our community and we enjoy hanging out with our people.”

The event will take place at the Waveland Lighthouse at Beach Boulevard and Coleman Avenue from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
