Water woes: Long Beach issues boil water notices after lines hit

The City of Long Beach had to close a busy intersection near Long Beach High School and issue two boil water notices after a water line and a sewer line were damaged.

Long Beach Community Affairs Director Jenny Levens said boil water notices have been issued for Pineville Plaza and for Fifth Street between Cleveland Avenue and South Burke.

The intersection of Railroad Street and Cleveland Avenue is closed through Friday for repairs.

Residents were warning each other of the closure Thursday morning as students were heading to school at Long Beach High and Long Beach Middle School, both of which are on Cleveland Avenue north of Railroad Street.

Levens said a private contractor hit a sewer line and a water line at Cleveland and Railroad and another contractor hit a water line across town at Seal Avenue, prompting the boil water notices.
