Water to Run Clear from Gautier Taps Soon

Gautier residents and business owners will be happy to hear in just a few months, the water from the faucets will run clear.

The city is constructing the first ion exchange filtration system in Mississippi, which will clear the water. For nearly three decades, water coming out of Gautier’s taps has had a brownish tint to it due to the pipes it runs through. Hotel managers at the Magnolia Inn tell News 25 they receive many complaints about the water and it has actually been driving customers away.

Mary Barnes, Front Desk Clerk at Magnolia Inn, says, “I mean, it makes us look bad because everything else is perfect here except for the water has got the brown tint, but there’s not anything we can do about it because that’s just how the Gautier water is.”

The Magnolia Inn is extremely happy this long overdue issue is finally being addressed and hopes it results in better business. The $3 million project is expected to be completed this summer.
