Warrant issued for capital murder after body found in freezer in Jackson County

Jackson County Sheriff’s investigators have obtained an arrest warrant charging 40-year-old Thomas Elliot Stafford of 14979 Masterson Avenue, Virginia City, with capital murder in the death of a man whose body was found Monday in a freezer. Stafford’s picture is entered in NCIC and U.S Marshals are helping looking for him.
Sheriff Mike Ezell says they think the body is that of the tenant of a home at 14924 Althea Street in the Virginia City area of the Latimer community. The owner of the home found the body early Monday morning and called the department. He told investigators the last time he saw the victim was March 3rd. Sheriff Ezell says the victim’s 2001 gold Cadillac is missing and it’s believed Stafford took it.
Previous unrelated charges against Stafford include violation of a protection order and drug offenses.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
