Ward 2 Special Election in Diamondhead
The city of Diamondhead holds its very first special election today.
The Ward 2 special election came about after former Councilman Blaine LaFontaine resigned last month to focus on his upcoming role with the Hancock County Board of Supervisors.
Diamondhead Election Commissioner Don Hopes says the turnout for their town’s inaugural special election has been extremely disappointing but they are hoping it will be a learning curve for future elections.
Tom Woolbright and Ted South are the two candidates vying for the Ward 2 position.
Woolbright said, “We’ve got a new city and we need to work together and I feel like I can get in there and work for the people.”
South said, “I wanted to get involved with the politics of it just to see if I can help and lend a hand and make us grow. I’m very interested in the growth of Diamondhead.’
If you’re a resident of Diamondhead and live in Ward 2, you can vote until 7 tonight at the Diamondhead Community Center.
