Walter Anderson Museum hosts Mardi Gras camp

The Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs is hosting a mini Mardi Gras camp.

During the three-day camp, kids will craft collages, participate in a scavenger hunt in the museum, and learn about the famous painter Walter Anderson and his childhood in New Orleans.

The camp is taking place in the museum’s newly renovated art cottage across the street.

That new space is allowing the museum to offer new opportunities like this for the community. Director of Education Tony DiFatta said, “We have a larger space and we have more staff since before COVID. We are also expanding that space; we’re adding more buildings to the back of it. We’re calling that the creative complex. So, as much as we have going on now, there’s going to be even more in the future.”

The creative complex is on historic property from the 1890s. Once the renovation is complete, it will include an education pavilion and shoreline garden.
