Walmart Brings Jobs and Grocery Options to Biloxi Area

Two new Walmart Neighborhood Markets are opening Wednesday, Nov. 5th, following brief ribbon-cutting ceremonies at 7:30 a.m. The new D’Iberville store is conveniently located at 10290 D’Iberville Road and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The new Biloxi store is conveniently located at 2050 Pass Road and is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. Both stores will provide residents with low prices on a broad assortment of merchandise and offer Walmart’s free Site to Store program, enabling customers to choose from nearly a million additional online items that can be ordered on Walmart.com and picked up at the either store for free, often as quickly as the same day.

The new stores are part of Walmart’s plan to open an additional 270 to 300 small-format locations this year. The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in 1998, and today there are approximately 300 Walmart Neighborhood Market stores nationwide.

The new stores will provide local customers with a new, convenient option for their grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce and pharmacy services.

“We are so excited that opening day is here,” said D’Iberville store manager Jim Hasty. “The community is ready for this, and we are confident that we’ll be able to provide them with a great shopping experience.”

“This is a great time to open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market here in Biloxi,” said Biloxi store manager Angillette Williams. “It will be a fast, convenient shopping option for our community during this busy time of the year.”

Affordable Groceries to Meet Your Needs
The new stores offer fresh produce and a full line of groceries from all the leading brand names, including organic and natural selections. There is also a wide variety of meat and bakery selections perfect for a Thanksgiving meal.

Smaller Store, More Convenience
The new stores are approximately one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter. In addition to groceries, the stores feature health and beauty aids, pet products and cleaning supplies. In addition, customers can shop a broader assortment of items online at Walmart.com and then have the option to pay for these purchases with cash in all of Walmart U.S. stores and Walmart Neighborhood Markets, including the new stores.

The pharmacies offer a full range of products and services. Pharmacy team members can answer product and prescription questions and customers can ask about health and wellness solutions. Area residents can easily transfer prescriptions and order refills on the go with the Walmart mobile app for iPhone and Android.

New Store, New Jobs
The new stores employ up to 190 full- and part-time associates. Hasty began his Walmart career in 1985 as an assistant manager. Williams began her Walmart career in 1987 as a part-time jewelry department associate.

“The new Walmart store is creating many new jobs in our city,” said Sharon Seymour, Executive Director of the D’Iberville-St. Martin Area Chamber of Commerce. “We proudly welcome Walmart Neighborhood Market to our community.”

“I am absolutely thrilled to have such a strong anchored business develop in my ward,” said Biloxi Ward 3 Councilwoman, Dixie Newman. “I would love nothing more than for it to inspire more development in this area. Already, I have heard from many constituents on how excited they are of the convenience of this location and so much more.”

Community Giving
The grand-opening celebrations include presentations of grants from Walmart to local community groups. In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart’s pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Mississippi donated approximately 5.9 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2014, or the equivalent of 4.9 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $12.8 million in fiscal year 2014 in Mississippi alone. A Big Family Welcome
