Walkway, green space help revitalize Back Bay area of Biloxi

Residents on the south side of Biloxi’s Back Bay have a new recreational area to enjoy.

Officials cut the ribbon this morning on the new Biloxi Back Bay walkway along Bayview Avenue.

The project created a new walkway and green space along the waterfront from Forrest Avenue to Kensington Drive.

City leaders like Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich recalled community events that were once held on Back Bay.

He and many others are hopeful that by revitalizing the area, they can bring those gatherings back.

“There was a rock jetty line that kind buffered the edge of the roadway that became an eyesore,” said Bobby Weaver, project manager for Seymour Engineering. “The mayor’s vision was to create this concrete access.

“We filled in as much as we could without impacting any wetlands, which was really positive, and made this amenity out here for people to be able to use.”

Weaver also said visitors should check out the walkway at night when it’s dark. “It’s twice as pretty at night.”
