Voting on bond to upgrade Long Beach High
Today, registered voters who live in the Long Beach School District are voting on a $20 million bond to upgrade Long Beach High School.
Voting started at the high school at 7 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. The purpose of the upgrade is to renovate a facility that was built in the 1950s with updated technology and more space.
Plans for the high school include reducing the number of entry ways and adding bathrooms that are closer to classrooms and building a new gym.
If the bond passes, property taxes in Long Beach will increase. A similar bond was voted on in 2005, but was voted down by coming up short a few votes.
The school is currently paying off $4.5 million from two previous bonds.
