Voters approve new taxes in Lucedale

The votes are in for the special election in Lucedale on Tuesday.

Voters deciding whether to approve two taxes to bolster the city’s Parks and Rec Department.

According to results posted to the city’s Facebook page, voters approved a one percent tax on prepared food and drinks in the city, as well as a three percent tax on hotel stays in the city.

The city plans to use the money generated by these new taxes to add new tennis courts as well as soccer and baseball fields.
