Volunteers cleanup fireworks debris along Coast beaches

After a night that lit up the sky in celebration of our country’s freedom, trash and firework debris covered Gulf Coast beaches.

Remains from bottle rockets, sparklers, bob cats, and many other fireworks were left on the beach after last night’s fireworks celebration.

Today families and visitors continue to enjoy the three-day weekend, but for some, trash was in their way. Trash cans on the beach are overflowing with trash, leading to it spreading and blowing along the beach.

Gulfport resident Tammy Parvin came to the beach prepared to clean up the mess left behind from the night before. “I’ve just decided to come out and volunteer my time picking up some trash that people left. Which I just don’t understand, they do it every year. This is bad for the environment, our birds just the whole society. I mean it makes us look trashy and we’re not. I just don’t understand people bring it why can’t they take it home.”

Parvin encourages Coast residents to volunteer to help clean up firework residue along the beach. The ‘Star Spangled annual Independence Day Beach Clean Up’ is not scheduled until July 10th.
